Job Descriptions Overview

 

Public Safety/Emergency Telecommunicator

A Public Safety/Emergency Telecommunicator will monitor and answer a multi-channel radio system, emergency, non-emergency, and business telephone calls and requests for service from the general public and other agencies, operate a wide range of computer systems to access information and dispatch officers to emergency and non-emergency situations and complete associated paperwork. This position consists of shift work (24/7, weekends, holidays, etc.).
Requirements :

  • Minimum Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Type 40 words per minute.
  • US citizenship.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • No experience necessary.

Detention Officer

Detention Officers are responsible for a multitude of duties, some of these duties are:

  • Booking and releasing inmates
  • Maintaining facility security
  • Conducting head counts
  • Resolving inmate conflicts or problems
  • Disciplining inmates for improper behavior
  • Composing documents or reports
  • Directly supervising inmate activities such as recreation, meal service and inmate work detail
  • Escorting inmates to and from court
  • Transporting inmates to other facilities for medical appointments
  • Transporting inmates to and from other agencies

Detention officers must be willing to work holidays and weekends. The work schedule consists of 12 hour shifts from 0600 to 1800 or 1800 to 0600.

  • Successful completion of physical fitness test.

 

Patrol Deputy

A patrol deputy performs a variety of complex law enforcement duties. They enforce state laws and county ordinances for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property of Teton County’s residents and the visiting public. Some of the day to day duties of a patrol deputy include:

  • Performing routine patrol duties for the purpose of preventing, detecting, and responding to suspicious or illegal activity.
  • Responding to calls for service on an emergency or non-emergency basis.
  • Conducting initial investigations of crime scenes/incidents to obtain pertinent facts and information.
  • Conducting interviews of witnesses, victims, participants, or suspects at scene of incident or crime.
  • Collecting and preserving evidence and property at incident or crime scene.
  • Arresting suspects involved in felony criminal activity; writing citations or arresting individuals involved in misdemeanor violations of the law.
  • Preparing reports, forms, and documents related to patrol activities.
  • Appearing in court as witness/complainant to provide testimony.
  • Providing assistance, direction, and support to persons in need during non-emergency situations.
