Full Time Detention Officer Position Available

Detention candidates, physical agility testing will begin at 0745 on February 14th.  Please arrive to the Sheriffs Office at 180 South King Street on time. Written testing will be administered for those that successfully pass the physical agility testing at 1000.  Those that successfully pass the written testing will move on to an oral board on  February 15th.  


Detention Salary starts at 39,224 per year, plus benefits.

TETON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
PATROL DEPUTY

The Teton County Sheriff's Office has one opening for the position of deputy sheriff in patrol.  It is open to experienced and non-experienced applicants.

The successful candidate will display a service attitude and a desire to serve the public; show a level of tolerance for those of different values; posses exceptional, collaborative leadership and followership skills; a flexibility in style; good listening and communication skills; have an air of approachability; posses a history of initiating and supporting new ideas and solutions to problems; be a team player; maintain a progressive approach to law enforcement;  computer and technologically astute; have a history of strong community involvement and an excellent working relationship with fellow employees and outside agencies; and, be an all around decent person with a sense of humor, is honest, has an open mind and the ability to work well with people and react correctly in difficult situations.

Starting annual salary is $39,224 with a range of up to $56,830.

Patrol candidates begin with a physical agility test scheduled for 8:00 AM, on March 21, 2012.  Please arrive at Sheriffs Office located at 180 South King Street on time. Written testing will follow for those that successfully pass the physical agility testing.  Those that successfully pass the written testing will move on to an oral interview board process as assigned on Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Minimum job qualifications are as follows: 

  • Education: High School or GED equivalent.
  • Show proof of being 21 years of age.
  • Show proof of a valid driver's license.
  • State certification as a peace officer from any other state meeting Wyoming standards.
  • Three years civilian patrol experience.
  • Pass a physical agility test. Must maintain good physical fitness while employed with the Teton County Sheriff's Office.
  • Pass an oral interview by a review board consisting of departmental personnel and community representatives.
  • Complete a pre-investigative questionnaire, personal history statement, medical history statement and produce required documents on a document transmittal sheet with a signed release giving access to personal and confidential information.
  • Sign a "conditional offer of employment"
  • Submit to a polygraph test and a written and oral psychological evaluation.
  • Complete a full background investigation with submission of your fingerprints for Federal, State and local clearances.
  • Pass a physical and medical exam by a doctor of our choice.

If the successful candidate is a lateral from outside the State of Wyoming, they will be required to graduate from the Wyoming Criminal Law and Procedures course held at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas, WY.

Non-experienced personnel will be required to attend and pass the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy's Peace Officer's Basic Training in Douglas, WY. 

Deputy sheriffs currently enjoy the benefits of a 4/10 plan, take home patrol car, on-duty work out time and may participate in a department ski program.

County benefits include: 80 hours of paid vacation per year, (120 hours at 5 years, 160 hours at 10 years); 10 paid holidays per year; medical insurance; paid Wyoming retirement (county contributes 11.25 % / employee  5.95%) and life insurance.

Successful applicants are employed on a probationary status for a period of one (1) year.

Public Safety/Emergency Dispatcher
 
  A public safety/emergency dispatcher will monitor and answer a multi-channel radio system, emergency, non-emergency, and business telephone calls and requests for service from the general public and other agencies, operate a wide range of computer systems to access information and dispatch officers to emergency and non-emergency situations and complete associated paperwork. This position consists of shift work (24/7, weekends, holidays, etc.).

 
Requirements :
Minimum Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
Type 40 words per minute.
US citizenship.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
No experience necessary.

 

Detention Officer
 
 

Detention Officers are responsible for a multitude of duties, some of these duties are:

  • Booking and releasing inmates
  • Maintaining facility security
  • Conducting head counts
  • Resolving inmate conflicts or problems
  • Disciplining inmates for improper behavior
  • Composing documents or reports
  • Directly supervising inmate activities such as recreation, meal service and inmate work detail
  • Escorting inmates to and from court 
  • Transporting inmates to other facilities for medical appointments
  • Transporting inmates to and from other agencies

Detention officers must be willing to work holidays and weekends. The work schedule consists of 12 hour shifts from 0600 to 1800 or 1800 to 0600.  There are four crews, each crew works 2 or 3 months of days and then rotates to 2 or 3 months of nights.  Each crew works 4 days on, 4 days off.

Patrol Deputy
 
 

A patrol deputy performs a variety of complex law enforcement duties.  They enforce state laws and county ordinances for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property of Teton County’s residents and the visiting public. Some of the day to day duties of a patrol deputy include:

  • Performing routine patrol duties for the purpose of preventing, detecting, and responding to suspicious or illegal activity.
  • Responding to calls for service on an emergency or non-emergency basis.
  • Conducting initial investigations of crime scenes/incidents to obtain pertinent facts and information.
  • Conducting interviews of witnesses, victims, participants, or suspects at scene of incident or crime.
  • Collecting and preserving evidence and property at incident or crime scene.
  • Arresting suspects involved in felony criminal activity; writing citations or arresting individuals involved in misdemeanor violations of the law.
  • Preparing reports, forms, and documents related to patrol activities.
  • Appearing in court as witness/complainant to provide testimony.
  • Providing assistance, direction, and support to persons in need during non-emergency situations.
