The Teton County Sheriff's Office Jail has seven blocks with 45 beds and has eighteen budgeted positions to include Sergeants, Corporals and Officers. You will work with and maintain systems to include Zuercher Jail, Live Scan, Securus, Xprotect, Prima View, Swanson and Cobra. The detention center houses our own detainees and inmates from Jackson Police Department, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations and other state, and federal agencies.
Detention Officers are responsible for the care and welfare of prisoners confined within the Jail while using proper safety methods and techniques. They maintain the security of the facility by conducting security checks, settling disputes, performing cell searches and inspections and conducting outside perimeter checks. Detention Officers are responsible for issuing inmate meals, clothing, linens and personal items; supervising inmate programs, including recreational, legal, health care, visitation and religious services; preparing reports on Jail and inmate activities; supervising inmates performing such assignments as cleaning and maintaining the Jail facility and continually observing locations and activities of inmates. Successful candidates must be able to think clearly and take action in tense and uncertain conditions, while maintaining professionalism at all times. Spanish speaking/comprehension skills are a significant asset.
Salary for lateral (experienced) applicants will be determined after experience and qualifications are examined and verified.

Testing day will begin with a physical fitness assessment followed by a written exam. If you do not pass the physical fitness assessment you will not continue with the hiring process (no exceptions). See the application for benchmarks that must be met for the run, situps and pushups. If successful in the above tests, you will be ranked based on your experience, performance in the Physical Fitness Assessment, and test score on the written exam. Top candidates will be scheduled for an oral interview to be conducted in the afternoon. Applicants will receive additional information about the testing and interview once qualifications are verified.
If you are successful through the oral board process, you will be issued a packet which includes additional detailed information and the list of required documents you must supply in order to begin your background investigation. Required documents include: copy of birth certificate, official transcripts for high school and college (if attended), copy of high school diploma, proof of auto insurance, selective service registration letter or DD214, copy of driver’s license, copy of all police reports in which you were arrested (whether or not convicted), copy of marriage license, copy of divorce decree, police accident reports taken within the past three years listing you as driver, copy of any civil judgment against you within seven years, a current credit profile with score and credit detail, copy of social security card and one color photo. Please bring any of the above documents to the oral interview. This will speed up the background process.

Personnel without current Wyoming certification will be required to attend and pass the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy’s Detention Officer Basic in Douglas, Wyoming. Lateral candidates may transfer their certification if approved by POST.
